Wow, what a monster day, there is plenty to talk about after an epic first round. It got rolling last night when Nike released a television commercial and on a 1-10 creepiness scale it was about a 17, check it out yourself. Where did they get this audio? Was that a voice mail Earl Woods left Tiger after he sucked at a tournament or after he caught his son doing some whore chasing? All I know is that Earl liked the sluts too, so it’s the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me. And Bootyism, how did Big Rips not think of this.
Biggest surprise: Tiger, Phil, Tom Watson and even Freddie are all nice stories, but by far the biggest surprise today is Nick Watney. It wasn’t Watney’s -4 that surprised me, it’s the fact that his cousin in Hedi Watney. It’s safe to say that if I was Nick I would try to sleep with my cousin.
Golfer I wish I didn’t take: Luke Donald +2. No doubt. He was a last minute sleeper pick and it was a toss up between him or Adam Scott (who I hate and bet on last weekend), Scott finished at -3.
Golfer I wish I took: Anthony Kim -4, I blogged last week that if he won at the Houston Open it would make for a compelling story versus Tiger if he stayed hot at Augusta. Not sure why I didn’t, probably cause I thought he’d still be hungover
Duceman’s pick I wish I took: Tom Watson -5, yikes the old guy still has it. I think Watson has been cryogenically frozen since the British Open last year. Has anyone seen him play since? He is too old to play on the Senior Tour and since there isn’t a Great Great Grand father tour, I think he was immediately frozen after the British to keep him in that form so he could compete at the Masters.
My best shot of winning money: Probably Ian Poulter -4, I’ve got Big Phil at -5, but I love Poulter’s ‘fuck you attitude’. The guy once said he was the 2nd best golfer in the world next to Tiger Woods, when he hadn’t even won a PGA event yet. Guys got balls, I like it, and having Tiger on the leaderboard motivates him more. Oh and he has played like 14 practice rounds at Augusta in the last week.
Thoughts going into Round 2: No one wins the Masters on day one. I love that the old guard, Couples and Watson, are on the leaderboard. I want to win a lot of money so I am pulling for Mahan, Kuchar and Poulter, but the scenario that I would love to see is Mick versus Tiger on Sunday that would be insane. The leaderboard is going to be drastically different at 7pm tomorrow, the weather is going to make it play longer, and now that day one is in the books for Tiger the pressure and attention will shift a back to the rest of the golfers. Someone who is Even or -1 today still has a chance to lead going into the weekend.
