Was THE PLAYERS as uneventful for you as it was for me? Or was it just because my cable didn’t work for three days?Watching TV at the Big Rips headquarters was like watching the Spice channel when I was 13. Remember how the signal would come in when you would stand up and tap the shit out of that button on the cable box that was worn down to a nub. Well that’s how NBC came in for me last weekend, porn has made huge strides in the last decade and a half. This week the tour stops is San Antonio for the not so sexy Valero Texas Open, with a not a very sexy field to choose from, the defending champion is Zach Johnson (2009 & 2008). I hope to make it an exciting tournament by actually picking a winner this weekend. I’m taking a different approach as my go to golfers, Hunter Mahan and Nick Watney are not playing this weekend. My Valero Texas Open predictions…
Justin Leonard +2500, Finished 5th in ’09 and 7th in ’08 and also has won this thing in ’07, ’01 and ’00. Leonard is a Dallas native, and I like betting on players playing in their home state, especially Lone Star state players. Can’t pass on a clutch guy like Justin playing on a course that he’s owned.
Sergio Garcia +2800, Hit the fucking ball Sergio! I’ve always wanted to yell that at a tournament, hopefully Sergio comes to the Deutsche Bank Championship Boston this year so I can. I read that Serg was a consultant on this course when it was being designed. That is like having a student working on the questions for an exam for their teacher, taking him, I really like this pick.
J.B. Holmes +3000, The Texas Open is long, plays at 7,600+ yards. J.B. is 6th on driving distance this year and 4th in putts per round. I like that combo, long hitter who can putt. J.B. is about to bust out, finished 13th at THE PLAYERS and has two 2nd finishes and a 3rd place this year worth a small play.
Chad Campbell +4000, There is always one or two guys I see that are always on the 2nd or 3rd page of the leader board. Campbell is one of them. I did some research and he checks out 4 top 25 finishes, plus he is another Texas boy. Distance is a big factor this week and Campbell is 19th in total driving, my sleeper pick.
Paul Goydos +5000, This dude got hit with fucking ugly stick a lot as a kid. Does Goydos have shoulders? How can he be a decent golfer? I personally cannot stand Goydos, for some reason Duceman is a fan he bet on him at Pebble. He has just two top 5 finishes and everything else is crap. Positive: Last week at THE PLAYERS had two rounds in the 60s. Negative: he aslo hacked a 81 in the 4th, not very good momentum, I wonder if his little T-Rex arms get tired by day 4. I am putting a small wager at +5dimes, just because Goydos was the runner up last year at -14. Small play on T Rex – Goydos.
