Ah, finally the last leg of the FedEx Cup playoff. The field is mow trimmed down to just 30 players with the points resetting. The 30 person field with no cut is a mad rush for the $10 million prize as pretty much everyone has a shot, some more likely than others. Basically if you go out and win at East Lake you’ll be in the money and the FedEx payouts are generous. There are couple side stories there are grabbing attention too.
First, Paul Casey (who is the 7th ranked golfer in the world) was left off the Ryder Cup team by Europe’s douche bag coach Colin Montgomerie (is douchbag 1 or 2 words?). Casey says that winning the TOUR Championship will not make up for being excluded from the team, so he’s very motivated. Next, Phil Mickelson is in position to to pull off an incredible feat. If Lefty wins on Sunday he will win the TOUR Championship, FedExCup, player of the year honors AND the World #1 Ranking. Oh by the way Lefty is the defending champion at East Lake. The field is just 30 players and it is the best golfers on the tour in 2010, so it’s tough to make a decision on who to bet this week. To make it even more difficult 4 players are past winners at East Lake GC. Phil 2X (’00 &’09), Camilo Villegas (’08), Retief Goosen (’04), Adam Scott (’06). So I am gonna roll with these guys.
Phil +500, with all that he has at stake I want to be screaming in celebration at my TV on Sunday when he’s high fiving the gallery after a monster putt on 17 to take the lead. No one gets the fans more stoked up than Phil.
Zach Johnson +1800, He has two 2nd place finishes at East Lake and he has the best combination of putting 11th and driving 9th in this field.
Jim Furyk +1800,Who knows what would have happened if Furyk had not over slept at the Barclay’s. Anyway he still made it to Georgia and with 4 top 10s in 7 career starts here, Furyk still has hope to win it all.
Justin Rose +2500, The Ryder Cup Captain finished 11th at Cog Hill after missing the cut at the Deutsche Bank. Rose placed 11th last year
Nick Watney +3000, Has a great game, blew up on Sunday at the PGA Championship with an 82. He’s 11th in fairways, 5th in distance, 12th in Greens and 10th in putting. He is considered to be the most consistent golfer on the Tour. He finished 13th last year at East Lake GC
