I’m getting to this late tonight and really wanted to do a long Pebble Beach write-up. Unfortunately, I’ve been working a lot this week, I figure it equates to me making about $4.25 per/hour, is that below minimum wage? Who knew I would make more in high school as a ‘lodge puppy’ at Nashoba Valley Ski Area, when I would haul trash out to the dumpster, clean off cafeteria trays and scrub the public bathrooms. I love this event and we were lucky to have the PGA tour stop there twice in 2010, Pro-AM and US Open. I put my biggest golf bet of the season on Dustin Johnson for the US Open, he won the Pro-AM earlier in the year. My Guy gave big odds (+2500) he was leading going into Sunday and was the hottest player on the course, the rest is history. I’m looking for redemption again at Pebble and so isn’t DJ. Gonna roll with these guys…
Dustin Johnson +550 – the lowest odds, but too hard to not put some money on him. He has won at Pebble twice and has played real well this year, owns a 9th, 3rd and a 29th last week at a crowded Waste Management Open leader board.
Vijay Singh +2500 – At almost 50 years old I don’t think Vijay has too many wins left in him. I could see him win here though. Veej, had a quiet 3rd place last weekend at the Phoenix Open and is playing well this year – has made all three cuts he’s played. Veej has won at Pebble once and has 3 second place finishes.
Brian Gay +2800 – Every weekend I see B. Gay on the leader board, I first laugh because I’m immature and then I tell myself to bet on B. Gay because he is going to win one week. This could be it with a light field. Gay has three top 20s this year, which includes a 3rd place. He didn’t win last year, but had 10 top 20s and came in 16th at the Pro-Am (but got a MC at the Open). He’s a top 5 putter and is 2nd in driving accuracy in 2011, a nice combo.
Steve Marino +4500 – My long shot this week. For someone who has never won he gets a lot of attention. Finished 4th last year at Pebble.
Good luck this weekend
