Archive for June, 2011

Who knew that I would be writing an US Open golf blog the night of a Bruins Stanley Cup 7th game in June.  Except for the Golf Boys music video and Tiger withdrawing, the third PGA Major has been in the shadows of a good Dallas – Heat NBA finals and an epic Bruins – Canucks Stanley Cup battle. The 2011 and 111th US Open stops in Bethesda, Maryland – the National Championship of golf – is my 2nd favorite major tournament.  The Congressional Golf Course is a Deveraux Emmet design, the defending US Open championship is Graeme McDowell (Pebble Beach) and the defending US Open Champion at Congressional is Ernie Els (1997).  The trick to winning this week is putting, accuracy off the team, greens in reg and did I say putting?  Scores should be low, don’t expect anything over -10/-11, the field is wide open.  Gonna roll with these guys…

Dustin Johnson +1800 – This is my first bet on paper, but I added it last, his Pebble and Whistling Staits debacles happen to a player once in their career and he had two in the same season.  He handled it like a champ, I ike a redemption story.

Matt Kuchar +1800 – Is there a player anymore overdue than Kuchar? He’s slowly turning into the modern day Mickelson before Phil won a Major.  He definitely has the game to win a Major anywhere and it fits Congressional perfectly.  He’s played in 14 events made 11 cuts, has 8 top 10s, a 3rd place and a 2nd.  Wow.  Kooch also is 12th on the Tour in GIR and 30th on the tour making putts between 10-15 feet which will be important this week.  I won’t be surprise at all if he is hosting the Cup on Sunday.

Bubba Watson +2500 – The Donnie Whalberg of Golf Boys was a stroke away from winning a major last year a Whistling Straits.  Like he said in the “Oh Oh Oh” video “I want my birdies all day long.” Well he should get them he is #1 on the tour in Greens in Reg.  I like Bubba, let’s hope he doesn’t forget his golf shoes.

Adam Scott +3000 – I think Adam Scott is a pussy.  But did anyone catch that Stevie Williams is on his bag this week?  Hank Haney tweeted that he was shocked by this.  This is really intriguing, especially because Scott always seems to hang around during big events. I could see this going really bad or really well for Scott.  Had a 2nd place finish at the Masters. 40th in GIR

Geoff Ogilvy +3500 – A couple of years ago people thought Ogilvy could start to compete with Tiger, then he dropped off with a swing change and injuries.  He is a former US Open champion (’06 at Winged Foot) which is on record as one of the longest Open courses ever.  He had a sneaky 4th place finish at the Masters at this price, why not take a chance. 108th in GIR.

Paul Casey +4000 – A lot of golf experts thing he is the most talented player in the World.  He showed it the last couple years with 14 top ten finishes.  I don’t think he plays often enough in the States to demand the respect he deserves.  He’s 8th in GIR and a top 50 putter on the Tour.

Aaron Baddeley +5000 – Badds has had a great year, 4 top tens including a 6th place at the PLAYERS plus a 1st at Northen Trust.  He’s very consistent at hitting greens in regulation and putting.  Great odds here.

Good luck and Go B’s

For some reason the Golf Boys Video isn’t embedding, so if you want to watch it click this link HERE

On the even of the 111th US Open this video hit the interweb and will surely go viral.  Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane and Hunter Mahan formed a Golf Boy Band and made this spoof video.  Fucking hilarious.  Ben Crane is actually the leader and who pulled this together.  I always thought he was a stiff, but I guess he’s pretty comical.  His YouTube Channel is worth  going to and wasting 30 minutes of work life today.  The funny thing about the group is that I like all four of the Golf Boys to do well this weekend at the Open.  I can see one them winning outright.  I will have my US Open picks up later today and before the puck drops for Game 7.

Go B’s,

I know right about now the Sunday Blues are starting to sink in for most of my readers. The Sunday Night Blues hit because the average person is anxious about a new work week and getting back to the grind.  For Big Rips readers and most degenerates the Sunday Blues are 2X worse.   You have that heavy, clammy, anxious feeling like most other people, but you also have the “I want to slit my wrist” feeling because it’s Sunday, you’re in the hole a nickel and the daylight hours are dwindling.  Which means there’s the random Sunday Night baseball game to bet on or if you are lucky there is a convenient NBA Finals 3 game…and there is tonight.

The public seems to be all over Dallas (-2)  after they stormed back in Game 2 to stun Lebron and company.  It definitely feels like they have the momentum and a ‘fuck you’ attitude after D. Wade did his best Sidney Deane impersonation from White Men Can’t Jump.  I am going to stay away tonight, because as history has taught us since the NBA has switched to the 2-3-2 format, the team that wins Game 3 goes on to win the NBA finals.  Fact.  This has happened 11 straight years.  So sit back tonight, don’t stress out and take the G3 winner tomorrow when they adjust the series line, and load up.  Uncle Seth still has a nice winner for everyone tonight.

Lebron James has been vocal that he has not been aggressive enough in the first two games, especially after a poor Game 2 performance.  He’s made it to the line just 6 times in the first two games and Shawn Marion is being touted as a Lebron specialist. We all know that this does not still well with The King Douche.  James said yesterday to some media folks that he will be in “Attack mode tonight” and that he’ll being make a “concerted effort to get  to the rim, create opportunities for myself and my teammates…”  We all know that is code for – get the fuck out of my way I am going to shoot 30x and I might pass to D. Wade if I’m tripled teamed.  Tonight he’ll get himself to the hoop and the NBA referees will be ordered by The Fuher (David Stern) to put Lebron on the line to make up for his 6 FT attempts. So for Game 3 of the NBA finals I am betting James OVER 13 1/2 first half points and OVER 26 1/2 total points for the game.  I love both of these bets.

Good luck,

Well I thought my Twitter Klout was going to sky-rocket after Big Rips gave Shaq his retirement nickname this morning. If I got some props it would have driven up the worth of my Twitter account, which is currently worth $24 according whatsmytwitteraccountworth.com, so I could sell it and purchase the domain name BigRips.com. Unfortunately Shaq, ESPN and SportsCenter jobbed me when Shaq used my nickname during his presser and SportsCenter didn’t give my twitter handle credit during the 2pm SportsCenter when then announced his new name.  This might sound like sour grapes, but it’s not at all.  I am just trying to put my sports and gambling blog which is on the cusp of being global in the top echelon of blogs.  A little nudge today by Shaq could have helped put us over the top.  Since, my Twitter Account is still worth just $24, I need to find another way to make money that Shaq stole from me.

Tonight the Oakland A’s are in town taking on the Boston Red Sox, who have dropped 4 in a row and  are due for a bounce back win.  I told myself I was going to bet the Sox last game after dropping their first two to the White Sox. I missed Wednesdays because I was at a meeting, saving my debit a card a trip to the ATM.  Tonight, I am betting Clay Buchholz who was filthy in May (3-0 2.08 ERA)  over Josh Outman who is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA.  Outman has nice numbers, but a Friday night in Boston, with windy warm weather and the Sox on a 4 game losing streak?  Free money.  The ball will be flying out of Fenway and Clay will shutdown the A’s anemic offense .  Bet the Sox -1 1/2 at even money tonight.

Good luck and fuck ESPN,

-SD
